Terry Papoutsakis Elected to NAE!

Congratulations to Prof. Eleftherios Papoutsakis, Dr. Sandoval's postdoctoral mentor, for his election into the National Academy of Engineering! The honor is bestowed for outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education." Election to the NAE is among the highest professional honors an engineer can get.

Per the press release, Prof. Papoutsakis is recognized "For contributions to metabolic engineering, especially the industrial biotechnology of Clostridia, and to biomanufacturing of therapeutic proteins."

Other notable inductees in the 2018 class include Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, as well as Aristos Aristidou, director of biotechnology R&D at Cargill and co-author of the Metabolic Engineering textbook.

The formal induction ceremony will take place in September in Washington, DC.
